Mime
Become a mime
Applying mime makeup and a full mime costume is not as difficult as it may appear. With a bit of effort and some easily found clothing, you can have a full French mime outfit in about a half hour. Here are some quick ways to apply a mime costume without spending much money or time.
Mime Makeup
Mime makeup is actually one of the easiest types of makeup to apply, making it a good choice for beginning performers. Mime makeup usually looks great either under bright lights or dim areas. The white face draws attention to the mime’s already dramatic facial expressions, creating the perfect opportunity for his or her comedian tendencies to be displayed to full effect.
To apply mime makeup, start with a clean face that has been patted dry. Moisturizing lotion can be used to remedy dry skin and make it easier to spread the makeup. Male mimes should shave earlier in the day before attempting to apply makeup.
Start off by outlining the entire face in white. Begin at the jawline, then proceed around the cheekbones, ending up approximately an inch below the hairline. This will give you a nice base to work from when adding in the rest of your mime makeup. If you are using grease makeup, be sure to powder thoroughly so you can use black eyeliner to draw in the lines of the face.
Using black eyeliner, draw in large eyebrows to give your face a dramatic effect. These should usually be drawn a little bit above your own eyebrows. Use the liner to also outline your eyes and lips to accentuate these facial features. Fill in your lips with bright red lipstick and let everything dry before touching your face. After the mime makeup dries, apply a final layer of powder to dry and seal everything.
Mime Costume
Now all you need are the clothes to make a perfect mime costume. You can go to a commercial costume shop and buy a mime costume or just simply use some basic black and white clothing. You will need black pants and a black or white long sleeve shirt. A black blazer adds a nice touch, but is not necessary. Now you are ready to go out on the street and start performing as a French mime. If you find you like the experience, you may wish to branch out into other areas of the performing arts, such as dancing or acting.
