Vocal Training

Vocal training and lessons

Vocal training can significantly improve your singing performance and it doesn’t always require an expensive vocal coach. These days, there are several low-cost or even free vocal training resources available to help you work through the voice lessons at your own pace. Technology has greatly expanded the assortment of options, with online vocal training sites and vocal training software making the learning process much simpler and more entertaining. Vocal training can help anyone involved in the performing arts, not just singers and musicians.

Online Vocal Training

However, you do need to be careful when purchasing any vocal training online product as there are may be a few scammers out there. Anyone can copy an expert’s book and claim that they can teach you to sing, but only a few are actually able to back up their promises. Look for customer reviews online before you commit to buying any type of vocal training software or e-book full of vocal training tips. Be wary if you are not able to find any reviews at all, as this may be a sign that the company has just entered the market.

Vocal Coach

Of course, the best way to improve your voice is to have one-on-one lessons with a vocal coach. A coach can help you prepare for singing auditions, but may be hard to find if you live in a smaller town, so the Internet or a library book may be your only option. If you have access to a variety of coaches, you should consider exactly what you are looking to achieve through vocal training. You should always take time to interview each prospective coach to make sure you are comfortable with them before signing up for lessons.

Make sure the coach has an organized plan for your vocal training. Many coaches just practice singing the same songs over and over again without teaching you any musical concepts or expanding your range. You want a vocal training plan that is going to push you to keep improving. There should be a long-term and a short-term plan for the types of things you will work on together, so you know that you and your coach are on the same page.

A good coach should also be able to recommend certain vocal training software or online vocal training programs that you can work on in the time between your lessons. This also shows that the coach is secure enough in their knowledge to encourage you to improve on your own. This may seem obvious, but many students are hindered by egos or personality conflicts with the vocal coach they have chosen.
