Plus Size Modeling

Work as a plus size model

The age of Twiggy and Kate Moss is over and onto the stage has come a new trend in fashion: plus-size modeling. More and more agencies are hiring real people to fill jobs once held by under-nourished and bony women. Several plus-size modeling agencies have cropped up in the past few years, matching the demand for plus-size modeling jobs. The right plus-size modeling agency can take the curvaceous and vivacious woman to places only the waifs have gone until now.

But first, before we get into that, let’s look at the trend in plus-size modeling. Women and teen girls of size 12 and over are finding work on a regular basis because they more closely reflect the mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and wives that are buying clothes. Companies like Lane Bryant are so successful that they are constantly in contact with plus-size modeling agencies in order to fill out the catalog, posters and other plus-size modeling jobs that entice real women to purchase clothes that look good, fit well and are attractive and sexy. Any decent plus-size modeling agency will have a range of women that it represents on those modeling jobs.

Plus-Size Modeling Tips

You do, however, have certain responsibilities once you enter the plus-size modeling world.

  • You will need to have a go-get-em attitude and be willing to wear what the plus-size modeling jobs have you try on, including lingerie modeling requests.
  • You will need to take care of your skin and hair while maintaining your figure; every year, many plus-size modeling agencies let go women who feel they don’t need to take care of themselves in order to remain in plus-size modeling. Don’t become one of those women.
  • You will also need to be willing to take some low-glamour plus-size modeling jobs, such as for catalog or lesser-known stores, in order to make it in the plus-size modeling world. Everyone pays their dues.

Still, that is not to say you can’t land your first plus-size modeling gig with a nationally recognized store chain or designer; that’s just partly luck and partly putting yourself out there in the plus-size modeling community. Also, be sure that you check out any agent who says they are from a plus-size modeling agency; they may be legitimate, but why take the chance on wasting your time with a wanna-be photographer or even a pick-up artist when you have serious business to be about?
