Lingerie Modeling

Model lingerie for a living

It’s the stuff of men’s dreams and women’s jealousy: lingerie modeling. There are literally hundreds of intimate apparel and swimsuit manufacturers, retailers and designers looking to get their names or products out there, making the lingerie model or swimsuit model a highly demanded, highly paid part of the fashion world.

Lingerie modeling has a long history, dating back to the 19th century when Sears and Roebuck put intimate apparel on women and commissioned artists to draw them wearing next to nothing. Luckily, other lingerie retailers have come along with just the right lingerie modeling job for you.

Becoming a Lingerie Model

It is tough becoming a lingerie model or a swimsuit model; many women find it hard to break into the industry even though they have beautiful faces and stunning bodies. Put together a modeling portfolio, get yourself represented by a respectable modeling agent, and go to as many lingerie modeling auditions as you can. Lingerie modeling agencies can help to put you out there and maximize your chances of being spotted in the crowd.

Many become frustrated with lingerie modeling, refusing to pay their dues or pose for this company or that photographer. If you want to become a well-known lingerie model, or even be on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a swimsuit model like Tyra Banks, then you have to be willing to make a serious commitment to your career choice. Get ready to put in long hours of hard work in order to make a name for yourself.

Lingerie Modeling Isn’t All Glamour

First of all, lingerie modeling is not as easy as it may seem: wear a skimpy outfit, take a few photos and go home. No, it is actually quite grueling; a single frame in a small magazine or on an Internet lingerie retailer’s site may take hours worth of rejected photos to be found. This means you will face long days as a lingerie model. Be prepared to smile (and mean it) on command. Learn to work the camera as much with your eyes as with your body. Lingerie modeling is very lucrative, and that makes it very competitive, so you need to bring your best game no matter whether you are sick, exhausted or just not in the mood.

Swimsuit models don’t have it easy either. Often the sexiest, most luxurious beach scene was shot in winter because only then are there no tourists or gawkers to distract and interrupt the photo shoot. As a swimsuit model, you may have to sit on cold sand, with cold waves crashing over you, and still make it look like a sweltering hot summer day. If you do, and you can be positive about the whole experience and take direction from the photographer, you just might be able to make it as a swimsuit model.
