Modeling

Your career in the modeling world

The world of fashion modeling can be very competitive at the very top, but there are plenty of niches you can still break into with a bit of work and persistence. Younger people can get into teen modeling and there are always plenty of baby modeling jobs available. Plus-size modeling jobs have been increasing as well, giving people of all sizes the ability to enjoy rewarding modeling careers.

Niche Modeling

In addition to the basic types of fashion modeling, there is a wide variety of narrowly focused markets. Some of these subtypes may be more appropriate for some people, so be sure to match your style and body shape to the type of modeling jobs you are auditioning for. If you are unsure of the best fit, a modeling agency may be able to advise you on the most likely career path for you.

The most common types of niche modeling careers are sports modeling, commercial modeling, product modeling, glamour modeling, trade show modeling, and modeling for specific body parts. Of course, fashion modeling is always in high demand, but the competition is much tougher. You generally must have an established resume in another area of modeling before you can break into fashion modeling.

Commercial product modeling is becoming one of the more profitable ways to have a successful modeling career. These types of modeling jobs ask you to pose for an advertisement or catalog for their product. These contracts can be very lucrative if you are able to obtain steady work from the company for future products and catalogs.

Modeling Agency

After you have decided on the right type of modeling, you must put the word out and try to get auditions. The quickest route to getting your modeling career started is to hire a modeling agency. Be careful as there are many scam companies asking for money upfront without showing you any results. Ask around within the industry to find out about a modeling agency’s reputation before committing to anything financially.

If you do not sign up with an agency, it is still possible to launch a career as a successful model. As with any other aspect of the performing arts or music, it often takes years of persistence and networking before you finally get that one big break. Keep developing your modeling skills while always seeking to expand your circle of industry contacts, and you will be sure to get there.
