Acting jobs can be few and far between. That is one of the first realities you must acknowledge before you begin a career in acting. Some actors go months or years between their roles. Also, because acting roles may not include high salaries unless you’ve landed parts in major shows, you may need to rely upon other jobs or gigs to keep your finances in order while you continue to audition. Acting can be extremely strenuous with low rewards, so you need to be strong, patient and self-sufficient until your acting career starts to take off.
Another reality that you need to embrace is that acting is a highly competitive profession. If you do not have the heart to compete with other people who have at least as much talent as you do, a career in acting may not be your best choice. You cannot ever let on that you have any insecurities or doubts when you go to an acting audition. You must always present yourself as the best possible candidate for the role.
The Importance of an Acting Resume
When you are pursuing an acting career, you have to have the most attractive acting resume possible. Your acting resume should be put together in such a way as to show the relevance of your past performances to the role you are currently pursuing. You should include as much experience as possible on your acting resume, including any modeling, musical or dancing gigs you may have had, but try to describe each past role in such a way that it relates to the current role you want to attain.
Acting careers are not impossible to attain, but you need to be prepared for all realities when deciding if it is the best choice for you.
