Broadcasting Jobs

Find the perfect broadcasting job

Broadcasting jobs can often look like they’re all fun and games, but they actually require a great deal of work. There is often years of struggling behind every successful television or radio broadcaster. Enrolling in broadcasting school may be required for many jobs in entertainment broadcasting, as well as some radio broadcasting jobs. Here are some areas to consider if you’re searching for jobs in broadcasting.

Radio Broadcasting Jobs

Many colleges and universities have their own radio stations, so if you’re interested in radio broadcasting, your school’s radio station can be a great place to gain experience. Odds are, you’ll get a chance to try your hand at a variety of radio broadcasting jobs, both on and off air.

Sports Broadcasting Jobs

Some broadcasters specialize in a particular genre, such as sports broadcasting. There are both television and radio sports broadcasting jobs, as well as numerous sports to cover, providing plenty of variety.

Entertainment Broadcasting Jobs

Do you follow the tabloids and watch all of the award shows? Do you picture yourself calling, “Who are you wearing,” as stars pass you on the red carpet? If so, then a career in entertainment broadcasting may be for you. There are a number of jobs in entertainment broadcasting, not all of which involve the glamour of the red carpet (especially at first). However, if you eat, sleep and breathe celebrities, you can combine this interest with your broadcasting talent to offer news features, commentary and of course, gossip to various radio or television providers.

Broadcasting School

Attending broadcasting school can give you an important advantage when competing for jobs, especially in large cities. Most colleges and some universities are now offering broadcasting programs, teaching the skills needed for media processing in today’s world. A degree matched with related experience will help you land a great position.

Working Your Way Up

Even if your ultimate goal is to be an on-air personality, it’s unlikely that you’ll start there. On-air broadcasters have to have enough experience to present the polished, professional image required (especially on live TV or radio). Don’t give up, though. Broadcasting is a diverse field with many opportunities. Taking a behind-the-scenes broadcasting job can help you gain experience and make contacts that could eventually lead to your dream job in broadcasting. Everybody has to start somewhere!
