What is entertainment law?
You may have heard the phrase “entertainment law” before, but not have understood what it really means or what areas entertainment law covers. Simply put, entertainment law is the area of law that covers all aspects of the entertainment industry, from contracts between movie producers and actors to defamation law suits to protecting the legal rights of a studio against infringement and copyright violations.

Entertainment law is a very broad area of the law, because there are so many potential scenarios that can develop within the entertainment industry that are legal in nature. The outlook for entertainment law jobs is quite positive. Even in economically poor conditions, entertainment venues thrive. In fact, studies have shown that the poorer the economy, the more money the entertainment industry makes, because common citizens rely upon entertainment to distract them from the difficulties of everyday life. Because the outlook for the entertainment industry is strong, so too is the outlook for entertainment lawyers. When there are many projects, there are often many potential legal issues.
If you are interested in studying entertainment law, you first have to be accepted into law school. You can seek out entertainment law schools that have specially designed programs to allow you to pursue entertainment law jobs upon graduation and passing the bar exam. As an entertainment lawyer, you may represent actors, dancers, musicians, models, producers, movie production companies, writers and more. If you have a passion for a certain genre of entertainment, it is likely that you will be able to find entertainment law jobs within that field.
